Reminiscing about the Alps

I still can’t believe how fast the time runs by. It feels like yesterday when we were on our way to Austria for our (late) summer vacation. But it has been over four months which seems insane. Last night I went through all the pictures I’d taken and felt very nostalgic. However, that’s what pictures are for. At least for me it is. To remember the good old days (not that these days aren’t good ones, but hey) and the memories we made while climbing up mountains (one) and driving endless roads which lead to the most beautiful panoramas. I really hope Douggie had any joy at all on our trip even though the weather wasn’t always on our side. In case you are wondering, here are some of my favorites:

Our Daily Routine

It’s been a bit quite around here because at the end of the year I was trying to figure out how to continue with this page. I would like to write more instead of just posting pictures which I simply did because I didn’t have the time to write proper articles. However, I want to change that and tell a little bit more about our life and adventures (if there ever are ones).

For today, I thought I would share our daily routine with you. I know it maybe sounds a little bit dull, but I figured some might be interested in how I/we manage to even have a daily routine with two dogs and especially a puppy.

Norbert has been great the last couple of weeks, but there are still things which need a lot of work (including being house trained). Nevertheless, I kind of managed to establish a certain routine for our daily life. (Of course, only if it’s a ‘normal’ day without any meetings or grocery shopping etc.)

06:00 am – This is basically the time Norbert wakes up the first time (he already sleeps through the night – mostly) because Marcel is getting up for work. So he goes out with him and afterwards, Norbert sleeps again until 8 or 9.

8:00 am – Sometimes sooner, sometimes later, but around 8 am my actual day starts. It might be late for some people but as I study from home I might as well get an extra hour of sleep and be more active and relaxed throughout the day. When I wake up everybody else wakes up, too, but mostly it’s Douggie who wakes me up. First thing I do is go outside with Norbert because he is not quite the trustworthiest dog when it comes to peeing inside. Then we just cuddle up in bed, Douggie and Norbert play a little bit and/or I catch up on the news, and social media etc.

8:15 am – 8:45 am – Depending on the weather we take a short or a little longer morning walk. We are very fortunate to live right next to the forest which is a real blessing.

8:45 am – While the dogs eat their breakfast and the coffee machine is working I make the bed, clean up a bit (mostly collecting dog toys in the entire apartment), and then sit down to drink my coffee, read a bit, or watch some videos.

9:00 am – On good days I am fortunate enough to be at my desk at 9 so I have a lot of time to study, but most days it is more like 9:30 to 10 when I can actually start. Life is just not that consistent in our house. While I study, Douggie and Norbert can pretty much deal with themselves by now. Either they play, or sleep, or find something else to occupy them. Douggie used to sit right next to me or even sleep on my lap (which he is doing right now) while I studied, but now that Norbert is here he is more active around that time, which I am really grateful for.

I take some breaks during studying in which I cuddle or play with the two, and of course in between everything I do throughout the day I have to go outside with Norbert. He is quite good at telling us now when he has to go outside so I don’t have to watch him 24/7 anymore which is a real relief.

12:30 am – 1:00 pm – Who would have guesses, but around lunch time I actually make my lunch.

1:30 pm – 3:00 pm – Another phase of studying in which Douggie and Norbert mostly sleep. I guess it is their actual nap time.

3:00 pm – Maybe sooner, depending on my studying progress, and the level of Douggie’s and Norbert’s restlessness, it is time for our afternoon walk. I try to make it a long one, regardless of the weather.

Whenever we are back from our walk, Douggie and Norbert get their second meal, and besides a 5-minute-period of craziness, both sleep again afterwards.

Sometimes I study some more, or I clean up a little bit, sit down with a book, or watch some tv, until Marcel comes home from work, which is at….

5:30 pm – Daddy’s home so there is a lot of excitement. We have dinner (the boys get another bowl), cuddle up on the couch, watch some tv, and just relax. In winter especially, when it is dark at around 4:30 to 5 pm, the day is pretty much done when he comes home. In the summer there is actual time and light (!) to do something more productive in the evening (though tv nights are nice too).

10 pm – 11 pm – That is basically the time everybody is too tired to stay up any longer (while Douggie sleeps through most of the entire evening), so Marcel takes the dogs outside a last time and we all go to bed.

I hope you enjoyed it. ☺️

Love and kisses,

Douggie, Norbert & Verena
